Solarpack specialised in solar photovoltaic energy, has signed a contract with the Government of Ecuador for the construction and concession of the El Aromo photovoltaic project, the largest photovoltaic solar power plant in the country, which will inject up to 200 MW of power into the Ecuadorian electricity grid. To this end, Solarpack will install solar capacity of up to 258 MWdc at El Aromo.

El Aromo will be built in the coastal province of Manabí, 20 kilometres from the city of Manta, on an area of 300 hectares, and will generate electricity equivalent to the consumption of 50 per cent of Manta's population. It will also prevent the emission of 221,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.

El Aromo will be in a landfill area for construction waste, thus contributing to the productive use of land with no alternative uses. The project involves a total investment of approximately €141 million.

The concession of this 20-year PPA reaffirms Solarpack's strategy to diversify its international presence with a focus on the fastest growing regions for solar PV.

The PV project was awarded in December 2020 following a tender process launched by the Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources (MERNNR) of Ecuador in which 3 international companies bid after a pre-qualification process.
